Clear Dome Umbrellas
A clear dome does two things an ordinary canopy cannot. It sits lower, wrapping past your head and shoulders so rain runs off well clear of your coat, and it lets you see the pavement, traffic and people around you.
That visibility is why transparent domes are a city staple rather than a novelty — and why they work so well for children.

Living with a clear canopy
Clear canopies are PVC or PU rather than woven polyester, so they are best treated a little more gently. Open the umbrella out to dry rather than folding it tightly while cold, and avoid forcing folds.
Clean with plain water and a soft microfibre cloth. Solvents and household cleaners cloud the plastic permanently.
Common questions
- Are clear umbrellas good in the rain?
- Yes — a dome canopy sits lower than a flat one, so it keeps rain off your shoulders and bag as well as your head.
- Are transparent umbrellas suitable for children?
- They are popular for the school run precisely because a child can see the pavement, kerbs and crossings ahead of them while still being covered.
- How do I clean a clear dome umbrella?
- Plain water and a soft damp cloth. Avoid solvents, bleach and machine washing, which cloud or damage the plastic.
